The current Whippoorwill Springs Chapter land used to be under the Pinon Chapter; it became a separate chapter and was certified in 1979. In the early years, the chapter had only a pre-school and a meeting hall. The chapter house was built in 1964 and a new preschool was built in 1987. The paved road (Navajo Route 65) was constructed in 1988. Ninety-five percent (95%) of the community housing units have electricity and 87% have water and waste water services.
The Whippoorwill Springs Chapter conducts monthly meetings to keep residents informed; residents have a forum to express their opinions to their Navajo Nation Council Delegate or to decide on matters concerning their chapter.
